In a comment conversation with Colin from Getting On recently (I’ll link to one of his posts so he knows we’re talking about him), we discussed doing something with the WordPress reader’s ‘Suggestions’ words–the three words under the search box you see when you log in to the Reader–as prompts for a post of some sort.

I mentioned that I used to do a few limericks including the three suggested words as a series. In fact, looking back, I didn’t do limericks at all and they were generally just little four line verses, or even (surprise) a haiku.
I initialised the suggested words as SOD (Suggestions Of the Day) so I could call them Silly SOD Verses. Because I am an immature child so, as well as describing me perfectly, it made me smile.
So the form was to post a screenshot of the words as they appeared, to prove they were a real set of SOD’s–otherwise you could just write a verse and say it includes any three random words instead of the specific three random words–and then do the verse of some sort.
I stopped doing it originally because the downside was that the suggested words didn’t actually seem to change an awful lot, highlighted by the fact that Colin had ‘sous vide‘, an odd thing to suggest you look for which I also had for ages years ago. (Edit: Has appeared for me again now as I went to get a screenshot for this post!) I also found one example verse from two years ago and the word ‘flowers‘ was one of them, which was also one of Colin’s words just a couple of days ago.
I looked at the suggestions as I was answering his comment yesterday and took a screenshot, contemplating giving it a go again and… well, the words were looking like sods, as well as SOD’s.
I decided I would actually have a go at the limerick form–that I thought I did before but actually didn’t–because it appears I haven’t actually tried any limericks on Scribblans yet.
And, once you see the words, you’ll understand why I avoided doing yet another haiku.
Here goes then…
Poor Eric sadly lacking motivation tried photography for a new occupation got a good one of Mrs Arden sunbathing in her garden so Mr Arden gave him camera constipation
Thank you for visiting Scribblans today. Sorry it probably wasn’t very good this time.
Did you know, if you share this post on your social media, it might have the effect of making you feel better? About everything?
Yes it could. Well, try it if you don’t believe me then.
